Story Center Speaker Series

The Story Center at Mid-Continent Public Library offers materials, resources, and programming for showcasing the print, oral, and digital stories created within. In partnership with Rainy Day Books, the Story Center showcases authors, creating opportunities for the public to learn more about the craft of writing.

The Story Center Speaker Series: Caroline Fraser

Tuesday, December 5 | 7:00 p.m.
Join author Caroline Fraser for a look at the fascinating life of Laura Ingalls Wilder whose Little House books captivated the world. Fraser's newest book, Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder, offers unpublished diary entries, letters, and manuscripts that give new life and perspective to some of America's most beloved stories. Frasers talk, offered in partnership with Rainy Day Books, will be followed by a book sale and signing. Registration is required.

The Story Center Speaker Series: Tayari Jones

Wednesday, February 21 | 7:00 p.m.
Join author Tayari Jones for a conversation about her latest book, An American Marriage. Jones’s book Silver Sparrow was named a top Indie Best Pick and has been added to the NEA Big Read Library of Classics. An American Marriage tells the story of newlyweds Celestial and Roy who must rediscover and redefine their relationship after a false imprisonment separates them for five years. Jones's talk, offered in partnership with Rainy Day Books, will be followed by a book sale and signing. Registration is required.

Tuesday, March 20 | 7:00 p.m.
Join author and Edgar Award winner John Hart for a discussion of his new book, The Hush: A Novel. The only author to win consecutive Edgar Awards for best novel, Hart’s latest book revisits the world first seen in his critically acclaimed The Last Child. A decade has passed, and Johnny and Jack struggle to fit into society knowing that there is a secret world beyond their town. Hart's presentation, in partnership with Rainy Day Books, will be followed by a book sale and signing. Registration is required.
